  • Oxygen 2 L/minute per nasal cannula, may titrate rate to keep oxygen saturation greater than 95%
  • Morphine sulfate 2 mg IV push (IVP) every 2 hours PRN for pain 3 or greater on a scale of 0 to 10
  • Insert nasogastric tube (NGT) and connect to low intermittent suction (LIS) and maintain per unit protocol
  • Observe abdominal dressing, surgeon to remove the 1st postoperative dressing
  • Chest x-ray post NGT insertion to confirm placement, then daily chest x-ray
