Glass container with single dose of medication: This describes an ampule. An ampule is a small, sealed glass container holding a single dose of medication (or solution). It is not a diluent itself.

Glass container with self-sealing rubber stopper: This describes a vial. A vial is a small bottle containing medicine, often in powder or liquid form, sealed with a rubber stopper (diaphragm) that can be repeatedly punctured for drug extraction. It is not a diluent itself.

Prevents aspiration of tiny glass particles: This describes the function of a filter needle when withdrawing medication from an ampule, which must be broken open, potentially creating glass shards. It is a necessary safety step, not the definition of a diluent.

Insulin U-50: Insulin syringes are used exclusively for insulin and are calibrated in Units, not milliliters. A U-50 syringe holds 50 units (0.5 mL) and is unsuitable for a non-insulin dose measured in milliliters.

1-ml precision: A 1-mL precision syringe (often a Tuberculin/TB syringe) is calibrated in hundredths of a milliliter (0.01 mL), making it ideal for doses less than 1 mL or for pediatric doses requiring high accuracy. However, since the calculated dose is 1.5 mL, this syringe would be too small and require drawing up the dose twice, which is poor practice and can compromise accuracy.

Insulin U-100: Insulin syringes are used exclusively for insulin and are calibrated in Units. A U-100 syringe holds 100 units (1.0 mL) and is unsuitable for a non-insulin dose measured in milliliters, and is also too small for the 1.5 mL volume.

250 mg/mL: This is the resulting concentration after the diluent has been added, not the volume of the diluent itself.

1mL: This volume is too small and is an incorrect interpretation of the label. 1Ml is the volume that contains 250mg of the drug, but it is not the volume of diluent added.

35 mL: This is 10 times the correct amount and is an incorrect reading of the label. Adding this much would severely dilute the medication.

50-100G: This range of gauge sizes is not used for standard injection needles. As the gauge number increases, the needle diameter decreases; a 50G needle would be extremely fine, likely too small to effectively administer viscous IM medications.

28-31G: This range of small gauges is typically used for intradermal or subcutaneous injections, particularly for insulin (30-31G) or tuberculin testing. They are generally too small for the deeper penetration and often thicker viscosity of IM medications.

25-27G: The smaller part of this range (27G) is often used for intradermal or very small subcutaneous injections. While 25G can sometimes be used for IM injections in thin individuals or with non-viscous medications, the range is generally too small to be considered the standard for IM.

23-G, 1 inch: A 1-inch length is typically used for IM injections, not subcutaneous. While the 23-G is a fine gauge, the length would likely go too deep into the muscle tissue, defeating the purpose of a subcutaneous injection.

18-G, 5/8 inch: An 18-G needle is a large bore needle typically used for IV insertions, drawing blood, or injecting highly viscous fluids. It is far too large and causes unnecessary pain for a standard subcutaneous injection.

18-G, 2 inches: This needle is both too wide (18-G) and too long (2 inches) for a subcutaneous injection. A 2-inch needle is reserved for deep IM injections in large muscles.

side of thigh: This area corresponds to the Vastus Lateralis muscle, which is a common site for IM injections, especially in infants and young children, but it is not the deltoid.

side of hip: The side of the hip, specifically involving the gluteus medius, is the site for the Ventrogluteal injection. This is considered the safest adult IM site, but it is not the deltoid.

back of hip: The upper, outer quadrant of the back of the hip involves the Dorsogluteal site. This site is discouraged in current practice due to the high risk of sciatic nerve damage, and it is not the deltoid.
