Positioning Techniques

Supine position: The patient lies flat on their back with the head and shoulders supported by a pillow. This position promotes lung expansion and is commonly used for bedridden patients.

Side-lying position: The patient lies on their side with the weight distributed evenly. This position is beneficial for patients at risk of pressure ulcers and allows for proper alignment of the spine.

Fowler's position: The patient sits up in bed with the head of the bed elevated between 45 to 60 degrees. This position promotes lung expansion and facilitates eating and communication.

Semi-Fowler's position: Similar to Fowler's position but with a lesser degree of elevation (around 30 degrees).

High-Fowler's position: The patient sits up in bed with the head of the bed elevated to 90 degrees. This position is beneficial for patients with respiratory distress or who require maximal chest expansion.
