NU 215 Maths Competency Exam ( 19 Questions)
Question 1 of 19 :
At 2 P.M. 600 mL of D10W remains to infuse at 50 drops/min. The drop factor of the administration set is 15 drops/ml. What time will the infusion be complete?
Correct Answer: 5
Calculation:
- Calculate the total drops to infuse.
Total drops = Volume to infuse (mL) x Drop factor (drops/mL)
= 600 mL x 15 drops/mL
= 9000 drops.
- Calculate the total infusion time in minutes.
Total time (min) = Total drops / Infusion rate (drops/min)
= 9000 drops / 50 drops/min
= 180 minutes.
- Convert the total infusion time from minutes to hours.
Total time (hr) = Total time (min) / 60 minutes/hr
= 180 minutes / 60 minutes/hr
= 3 hours.
- Determine the completion time.
Completion time = Start time + Infusion time
= 2 P.M. + 3 hours
= 5 P.M.
