Why Practice Questions Are Important
They Sharpen Your Test-Taking Skills
Practice questions help test takers get comfortable with the NCLEX's question styles and timing. This boosts your confidence on the actual NCLEX exam day.
Helps Identify Knowledge Gaps
Free practice questions allow you to evaluate your understanding of core NCLEX topics. They expose areas where you might be weak, helping you to focus your studies on areas that need improvement.
Why Free Practice Questions Aren't Enough
Limited Scope
Free resources often present a limited range of questions, potentially neglecting some important NCLEX areas. A comprehensive prep course ensures you're exposed to a variety of topics and question styles, mimicking the actual exam's depth.

Lack of In-Depth Explanations
Free questions may not provide detailed explanations for correct and incorrect answers. Understanding the "why" behind answer choices is crucial for solidifying your knowledge and avoiding similar mistakes on the NCLEX. To enjoy detailed rationales enroll for the Naxlex NCLEX Prep Course and unlock the potential of our practice questions.
No Personalized Feedback
Free resources offer limited to no personalized feedback on your performance. A prep course provides valuable feedback from experienced instructors. Feedback helps you identify recurring weaknesses and tailor your study approach accordingly.
Motivation and Support
Practicing NCLEX questions alone can be challenging. A prep course offers a structured learning environment, keeps you accountable, and connects you with fellow NCLEX-RN prep students. This creates a supportive community that can boost your motivation.
The New NCLEX
For better preparations, it’s important to be aware of the trends in the NCLEX exam. In 2023 the National Council of States Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) implemented a new version of the exam, the Next Generation NCLEX (NGN) . The latest version emphasizes clinical judgment and decision-making skills.
NCLEX Exam Question Types
The NGN introduced new NCLEX exam questions that aim to assess high-level thinking and clinical judgment skills. They include:
Multiple Response Grouping
For MRG, you'll see a table with 2-5 categories, each containing answer choices related to a specific nursing scenario. Unlike regular multiple-choice, you MUST select at least one answer from EACH category.
Multiple Response Select N
This format requires you to select only a designated number of correct answers from a list of options. For example, the question might ask you to "Choose the three MOST important assessment findings for a patient." You'll be presented with several answer choices, but you'll only need to select the top three that are most relevant.
Matrix Multiple Choice and Response
This format presents a table with rows (usually 4-10) and choices in each row (typically 2-3). You have to choose one answer for each row to proceed. It's like selecting the best response for each mini-question within the larger question. Remember, you must answer all rows before moving on.
Drop Down Cloze
This type of NCLEX question gives the electronic Health Record of a client and you'll be presented with a statement containing one or more blank spaces. Each blank space has a dropdown menu offering several answer choices (typically between 3-5). Select the most fitting option from each dropdown menu to complete the statement accurately.
Drag and Drop Cloze
In this case, candidates drag responses from the options available into empty response boxes.
Drag and Drop Rationale
Here, you drag and drop or match items into the appropriate location, for example into a sentence or table.
Highlight Table and Text
This type of question requires test takers to identify key information from a table or a passage. They are answered by paying close attention to keywords that guide you to identify important information, and then highlight it.
Trend
This question type assesses a candidate's knowledge of the NCSBN Clinical Judgement Measurement Model (NCJMM). A test taker will be given patient data over a certain period and then identify trends or changes that may require intervention.
